«Hikikomori» is a game about a protagonist living as a shut-in with maladaptive daydreaming. Every mistake makes the gameplay harder, and it's difficult and borderline impossible to make up for your failure. It's a game about losing yourself in daydreams and the difficulty of making up for your failures – quite an uncomfortable but enthralling experience.
Topics like mental health and LGBTQ are underrepresented in games, and I'd like to see more of them, especially in the horror genre.
Games that offer to lower the difficulty level when you are making mistakes irritate me, so I decided to create a game that does the opposite.
